NEVER TOO LATE TO LEARN SOMETHING NEW

As much as I love water, I never had a chance to swim, until last month when I was camping and had no option but to go into the lake for a bath. I was lucky the water was not so deep so I could walk in it.

But it would have been more fun had I known how to swim..

I see many of us feel we are too old to learn something new.

We have our excuses – no time, too tired, too old… etc, etc, etc.

This isthe age of internet and our parents are learning to use tablets just when they finished learning how to use a touch screen phone.

What is your excuse ?? Are you too old to learn something new ?

Are you willing to learn the ninja tips and tricks of marketing?

I TOOK THE RISK OF BECOMING BROKE..AND THEN….!!

I have worked in the corporate sector for almost 13 years and i know how it feels to get out of bed and drag yourself to work. Well, a few of you are lucky who love your job.

I wanted to be a designer – a web and graphics designer….some wrong moves I made, add it with a dash of recession of 2000 and wallah…i had my perfect recipe of career disaster and landed up in call centers and HR and admin jobs.

Hmm, not so creative, trust me…

Take away the brush from an artist and give him a calculator or a spreadsheet to work on…something like that happened to me.

So here is what my life was when i worked with corporates.

– I was super sensitive about my WEEKENDS. I wanted to live my whole week in those two days before I had to drag myself to work again on ‘Just another manic Monday’.
– On these weekends, I wanted to spend most of my money I earned in the those 5 weekdays to get the stress out of my mind.

– I would go to a mall and buy everything I did not need; clothes – when my closet was overflowing with all kinds of clothes; snacks and candies – bad for my health; shoes – just because I needed them but actually I didn’t 🙂

And then comes the dreadful Monday, and I would go back to the same old cycle of the week.

5ecbbdb8bc5304c820acd3c046ba7d6b

“Sometimes it was hard for me to believe that I was human because I almost felt that I was a machine. Ever had that feeling ?”

One day I lost that job due to recession of 2009 (hit for the second time by recession…aaargh!!)
and I decided to take the risk.

“I decided I will not go to work anymore, no matter what”

I will do what I love to do
I will learn to live without my salary
I will survive

So, I made up my mind to sit at home and freelance – what, how, where – I didn’t know but I had decided and I was not turning back.

I got many opportunities to do some freelance work but it paid me very less and I was still not enjoying any of it. I finally decided to use my degree from 15 years ago and start doing some graphic and website designing business.

“Soon I realized I was not a great artist, and I had to outsource most of my work to an agency. Well, that kind of work but I did NOT want to give away my customers”

But the good part was that I learned to design, brushed up my Photoshop skills and more than anything I learnt to handle clients.

I also tried MLM – selling health supplements but the cost of procuring the products, sometimes stocking some, taking people for trainings to the center – it all costed more than I could afford anymore. I soon realized I was buying and consuming these products more than I was selling these, haha, I am sure most of us who have tried MLM understand what I am saying here. Amway, Avon, Tupperware or Herbal Life.

I gave up – sat in my bedroom watching movies and knitting all day ( That made me a crazy knitter, lol). I did that for a year – depending financially on my parents, sister, friends, credit card.

And one day – I happened to meet an online marketer Frank Andres on skype

He wanted to sell me an online opportinity for $15. I had no money but I did have credit card and the entreprenuer inside me was so deperate – for money, for a new opportunity that in the next 48 hours I bought the opportunity on my credit card not knowing how I will pay my card (Now remember, I had been without salary for nearly 4 years)

About Frank, I was impressed by his selling and convincing skills. The truth is, he did not sell me anything…he just talked and answered my questions on skype -like a friend would.

I realized that was the art  – the art of making relationships
Eventually, in a few months, he was not promoting that online opportunity and had started his own venture. I offered to join his business and..

Lose Weight By Blogging Everyday

Yes I mean it!!

If you can’t blog everyday, you can’t lose weight ?

In other words, if you CAN BLOG EVERYDAY, YOU CAN LOSE WEIGHT 🙂

Read below –  3 Tips how to do both!!

  1. Start your day rightYou must have heard people say, “Start your day with Prayer and Meditation “.
Yes we all know that but do we do it ? I know your answer, lol.So, here’s a morning routine which is doable, I open my eyes and while still in bed I Thank God for a beautiful morning, I reach out for my black diary near me and write a line or two about what I am thankful about from the previous day. Then I do my three yoga exercises (takes just 5 minutes – ask me in comments below for the youtube video link and i will give it to you).Because I have enough time in the morning being a work from home entrepreneur, I grab a cup of coffee (Yes i brush my teeth first) and turn on my laptop. I write my blog or blogs, depending on how i feel. Sometimes i write 10 blogs in 30 minutes using my awesome software (ask me in comments below about my awesome software). I go for a walk to the downtown grocery store- 5 minutes from here to buy a few things i might need.I guess that takes care of morning exercise, meditation and blogging !! Now I am guilt free! How easy was that!!
  2. Make a reasonable commitment – Yeah Yeah – Don’t eat desserts, chocolates and junk food – we heard all that!!
But do we stop. I know your answer. Here’s what I do.I eat every 4 hours, mostly freshly cooked food. I look forward to trying new recipes and improving my cooking skills and if you think you are a good cook, you can create a blog on your recipes, how about that!
Read my blog about healthy eating hereI do eat pizzas, chips, drink coke. There was a time i wanted chips and coke everyday. Then i made a commitment as recommended by my mother in law.I wrote my health commitment on a piece of paper and pinned it on my fridge. No i didn’t live up to my commitment as i wanted to, but I did become conscious of my consumption of chips and coke and reduced my consumption from everyday to a few days in a week.Hmm, that’s all good but what about blogging! Ok, so the same principle applies here.I made a commitment to blog every morning, didn’t I?But I may skip some days as just like you I am not disciplined enough. And just like keeping my commitment for coke and chips on some days if not all, I keep my commitment to blog most of the days if not all.

Isn’t it better than putting it aside everyday till you realize you didn’t write a single blog in the past 30 days!
    SOMETHING IS BETTER THAN NOTHING

I can tell you lost weight already by reading this blog, lol.

    3. Become a sharer – Hmm, now am i talking about sharing food or sharing information on your blog about something that will help people. I am talking about both.

You can make it a habit of sharing your food recipes. yes, when you get into a habit of cooking healthy food, your friends want to know what you are doing to stay healthy. Plus, I personally believe that you drive around your house and look for homeless people and buy them food. If you thinking you have stuff in the fridge which you will not eat but its not stale, donate food to food banks specially after your big parties.

Ok I will stop preaching here !

This is How Peanut Therapy Works miracles!

One day, I and Frank’s Dad decided to buy a bagful of peanuts and crack them. So we sat at the dining table and got started at it.

We must have done this for an hour or so (time just flew past) and amazingly we talked about so many things, good and bad, about people, religion, cultures, traveling and many other topics.

We were not just popping peanuts out of the shell but popping our feelings and sharing our thoughts. It was so much fun. (although cleaning up after wasn’t so much but it was worth the conversation)

Next day Frank joined us and after a few weeks his friend, John who was visiting us decided to participate in peanut therapy.

STRUGGLING WITH A RELATIONSHIP??

TRY PEANUT THERAPY

You got to try it to believe it !!!

Get a bag of peanuts today and invite your friends, parents, siblings, spouses, lovers and coworkers.

HAPPY PEANUT CRACKING

How to transform your kitchen and live a 100 years!

Haha,

It sounds like I am encouraging you to renovate your kitchen and you are thinking, oh yes i would love to but I dont have the money!

But what I am suggesting is to look at all the food items in your kitchen and replace them with healthy items.

So, here’s a list of things your kitchen needs!

Trust me! just by making these small changes in your pantry and your kitchen drawers will save you tons of money which you may otherwise spend on medical bills!

So, here we go!

  1. Replace canned and processed food with organic.  – I know its expensive but think about it as along term investment in your body.
  2. Dont keep it, Dont eat it – I realized when there was 5 bags of chips and 10 bottles of coke in the house I consumed more. Then I decided to buy just one or two so that I will eat junk sparingly. It’s not easy  to give up junk food but its controllable! We all agree that junk food makes us happy (don’t know why!)
  3. Change your cooking oil – to coconut, olive, mustard or sesame. All these oils plus some more are very good but I cook mostly in butter and coconut. Coconut oil is very good for the brain and reduces the risk of Alzheimer’s. You can read more about its benefits on google. I use mustard oil for cooking meats, its easily available in Indian stores. And whoever told you butter is bad for health…its not true. Millions of dollars have been spent on proving that but there is no evidence that butter is bad. In fact, margarine and ‘I cant believe it’s not butter’ are absolutely harmful for your body. Use your logic – if its not real, its artificial.
  4. Sugar vs sweeteners – If you think you can add sweeteners to your coffee to control your diabetes you are wrong. Again the same principle applies –  if its not real, its artificial.
So either you have a coffee without sugar or use organic form of sugar like honey, molasses, brown sugar. You also need to watch for candies and chocolates and cakes which are packed. It makes sense to me to buy cakes and donuts from a place where these are baked everyday because there won’t be any preservatives or artificial sugar. So that’s what I suggest, buy your desserts from a small bakery where you can also ask for custom made desserts if you are friendly enough or pay more.
  5.  Rice is good if its brown  – White rice is polished and you don’t want that, fill your pantry with brown rice, it does take a very long time to cook.
If you still like white rice go for best brands like Basmati and Golden Sella. These are expensive varieties used in Indian cooking.
  6. Replace bread with wholewheat or brown bread – Any bread kept on the shelves with a fancy wrapper and a date of expiry is not what i would buy. Again I would buy fresh bread from a bakery! They might have a variety to choose from but I would trust that their bread won’t have any preservatives.
  7. Get your free run or free range eggs and the meat from the farm – You may be living in a big city and it may not be possible for you to find a farm near you but if you do live near one, you wouldnt mind going once a month to the farm and getting your meats and eggs.
  8. Add seafood to your diet – I am not a fan of seafood but if you are, then you got a source of omegas there. Why the Eastern part of the world has less diseases than the western is because of their high intake of seafood. Seafood is also good for your joints, aches and pains. Read more on google of what eastern people eat to keep healthy. Yes they do tai chi and qi gong and yoga too but we don’t have time for that, lol!
  9. Fill your Spice Box – spices are good and if you love to experiment with your cooking  – these are some of the spices which I use.
    – Turmeric (add a little to all your recipes as its a natural antibiotic)
    – Oregano (i use lots in pastas and pizzas)
    – Cumin powder (I use a spponful to give my recipes a little sweeter flavor)
    – Cloves, black pepper corns, indian bay leaf, black cardamom, green cardamom, cinnamon – this is called an indian garam masala if grounded all together. you can get a readymade pack too!
    – Ginger powder
    -Sesame seeds
    -Mustard seed
-Black caraway seed (fry your pumpkin in this and some onions)
    -Curry leaves
    -and more!
  10. Use lots of garlic and ginger in your cooking – garlic and ginger have innumerable beneficial properties and its never too much garlic in your food.
  11. Drinks – Its easy for us to buy canned and bottle drinks but if you invest in a juicer and buy some oranges and veggies, you may find a weekend hobby to make your own juices and give some to your friends and family. If you can buy in any juice bars –  fresh juices, fresh coconut water or lemonades – always opt for that. if you are not a heavy drinker –  then occasional wine and beer is good for you too! (that’s what the Bible says). I researched a lot about aloe vera and I recommend aloe vera flavored juice from foreverliving.com as its not yukky and comes in three flavors ( cranberry and peaches is my favorite). You can sign up free or find a nearest distribution center for pickups. The list is endless my friend, so if you will ask me questions I would love to help you.
